Barock Pinto Inspection 2024

Champions of the day

On Saturday 3rd August we hosted the UK Barock Pinto Inspection here in Perthshire. The judges Simon Hoeksma and Barend Damstee of the Barock Pinto Studbook joined us from the Netherlands, we thank them for their time and for giving explanations of results throughout the day.

We started the day with identifying horses microchips, taking DNA, measuring and then seeing the adult horses walk and trot on a hard surface.

Then the grading began, first with the foals. We had four foals graded, every one of them received high praise from the judges and all received a 1st premium. All of these foals were sired by our Julius BP78 so I am delighted that the quality of his offspring has shone through again! The highest placed foal was “Odin of Friesians Scotland” (mother is Friesian ster mare by Norbert 444) who really impressed the judges with his elastic movement, he achieved a super high score of 48 points then went on to become overall champion of the day!

Next we had the three year old mares. This was an exciting category as all of these mares were of very high quality. Seraphina FS was really showing off her magnificent moves, she gained enough points for elite but could not receive the title as she is not tall enough (must be minimum of 160cm). We will re-grade her if she reaches the height in a few years time but for now she is ster. With 44 points Seraphina became champion of type FB.

Leah of Friesians Scotland really wowed us all, this young mare has such fantastic use of her hind legs and knows how to extend with such balance and elegance that she received a massive 9 points for her trot! Unfortunately she is too small to receive ster status at this time so she could only have 3rd premium until she reaches 158cm.

Our beautiful blue eyed girl Lakota enchanted the judges and received title of provisional elite! This mare is quite unique and we think she is so special, it was an emotional moment when the judges announced Lakota had achieved the highest possible title.

Not to be outdone by her best friend, next in the area was “Lucille of Friesians Scotland” who really knows how to use her legs, balance, extend and collect. She danced her way to gaining a 9 for her trot, a total of 47 points and the provisional elite title! This young mare has a very exciting future ahead, such natural talent (as with Leah and Luther they get their super hind leg, extension and powerful conformation from their father Constantijn BP18).

Next came Luna Eclipse owned by Claire Smith. This tall mare stood out to the judges for her walk and mostly for “breeding type” on which she scored 8.5 points. She also was awarded the highly acclaimed title of provisional elite! Luna also managed to score so highly that she became overall reserve champion of the day! Huge congratulations to her owner!

Three year old Friesian gelding Phantom fan Kyrimara is an impressive looking horse who knows how to move, he had consistently good points which gained him ster in section FB type.

Three year old Luther of Friesians Scotland received no less than 7 points in any category and so earned himself the place of approved breeding stallion in the Barock Pinto Studbook. This is such an honour, he is a young stallion with big presence and I am so proud of him.

Four IBOPs were performed, all combinations passed the test. Suzanne Al-Gayaar rode Carmen Van Soma in a sympathetic manner and scored 62 points. James Oakden rode Julius BP78 in a successful IBOP and so his stallion approval is now complete (other than the continued assessments of offspring). Holly Rankin performed one driven and one ridden IBOP with her stallion Warre van de Coppelderije, another sympathetically ridden test which gave this combination the highest total of 66.5 points!

It was a successful day, congratulations to the owners, the riders and drivers of the horses. Thank you to the judges for the encouraging feedback and to all who supported the event. Oaklie's grill kept us all well fed and hydrated throughout the day.

Massive thank you to everyone who helped with preparation in the days before the Inspection and those getting horses ready on the day, a lot of work is involved and I couldn’t do it without a team of enthusiastic helpers to whom I am very grateful.

Our photographer Annie Damhof travelled from the Netherlands to be with us and we are incredibly excited to see her shots.
